Turkey’s scrap imports slide in Jan-Oct y-o-y

According to statistics from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkey imported a total of roughly 15.2 million tons of scrap in the first ten months of this year, a year-on-year decrease of 7%.

During the period, the US supplied the most to Turkey, with nearly 3 million tons, a year-on-year hike of 23.5%, followed by the Netherlands’ 2.3 million tons and the UK’s 1.8 million tons.

In October alone, Turkey’s scrap imports dropped by 24% month on month and by 12% year on year, reaching about 1.3 million tons. These scrap imports were valued at approximately US$464.4 million, a month-on-month drop of 25% and a year-on-year fall of 21%.
