Turkey’s scrap imports fall in Jan-Aug y-o-y

Statistics from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) showed that Turkey imported a total of roughly 12.3 million tons of scrap in the first eight months of this year, a year-on-year decrease of 9.4%.

During the period, the US supplied the most to Turkey, with around 2.3 million tons, followed by the Netherlands and the UK.

In August alone, Turkey’s scrap imports dropped by 5.4% month on month and by 29% year on year, reaching about 1.4 million tons. The US was the largest source with about 313,000 tons, and the Netherlands and the UK ranked second and third with around 217,200 tons and 176,400 tons, respectively.
