Turkish steelmaker Kardemir Çelik Sanayi A.Ş. announced its participation in the Izmir Development Agency's (IZKA) green transformation program, receiving the program's highest level of support. This six-month program will assist companies in developing roadmaps for carbon reduction and sustainable development through training, company status assessments, strategic planning, and technical consulting.

Kardemir Çelik's steel plant in Aliağa, Izmir, utilizes electric arc furnace (EAF) technology to produce small steel billets from scrap steel, combined with a waste heat recovery system to improve energy efficiency. The company is also actively investing in renewable energy, having already invested in wind power, solar power, and waste heat power generation systems, with a total installed capacity of 24.7MW.

Through the green transformation program, the company will further strengthen its energy management and low-carbon production strategies, and plans to continue expanding its investments in solar and wind power, increasing its renewable energy installed capacity to 52.1MW to enhance its sustainable competitiveness and reduce carbon emissions.
