Trump announces 25% tariffs on car imports to US

27 Mar 2025 17:19 reported by Iona Chen

A A A
US President Donald Trump has announced new import tariffs of 25% on cars and car parts entering the US as of April 2.

These tariffs apply to vehicles that are not produced in the US or not assembled in the US. The new automotive tariff will be imposed on top of the existing 2.5% tariff.

The US government decided to implement an equal tariff policy on April 2. Some market participants anticipate that this measure will target countries contributing to the trade deficit, such as China, Germany, and Taiwan, while the specific tax rate will be based on varying conditions.
