Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), an Indian renewable energy company under The Tata Power Company Limited, commissioned a 198 MW group captive wind energy project in Karur, Tamil Nadu.

Consisting of 55 wind turbine generators of 3.6 MW each, the facility provides 31 million units of clean electricity annually to Tata Steel, reducing carbon emissions by 26,350 tons per year.

TPREL utilized a self-EPC model, managing all engineering and construction internally rather than using external manufacturers. This approach enabled record-setting speed, with foundations finished in 126 days and turbine installation in 167 days despite challenging rock excavations.

This addition increases TPREL’s total renewable capacity to 11.6 GW, supporting Tata Power’s goal to achieve 100% clean energy by 2045. The project demonstrates large-scale execution through meticulous planning and in-house technical expertise.
