Taiwan’s steel fabricators request price hike pause from CSC

Taiwan’s steel cutting and pipe manufacturing groups requested China Steel Corporation (CSC) to slow down price increases for the third quarter.

During a pricing preparatory meeting, fabricators said that consecutive months of rising costs have met resistance from end-users, leading to reduced purchase volumes and export orders. Low-priced imports and a rise in semi-finished products, such as automotive and furniture pipes, also disrupt the domestic market. The group convener Shu-Kai Chang requested competitive substrate materials from the steelmaker to counter cheap foreign imports.

CSC Sales Director Po-Han Chen promised careful price evaluations during this inventory digestion period. Chen warned buyers against speculative bottom-fishing of imports, which risks oversupply and price damage, noting that tailored relief programs are available for individual cases.

Additionally, CSC Vice President of Commercial Division, Chia-Cheng Lee, announced that starting in the fourth quarter, CSC will fix its monthly price release date on the 5th to stabilize delivery schedules.
