Taiwan & US sign reciprocal trade agreement to lower tariffs

Taiwan and the US officially reached the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART) in Washington on February 12. This deal establishes a 15% reciprocal tariff and secures favorable treatment regarding Section 232 duties. The agreement now heads to the Legislative Yuan for review to finalize these new trade benefits.

The agreement benefits key industries such as machine tools, hand tools, bicycles, and hardware, giving them a stronger competitive edge in the US market. Specifically, the deal secures exemptions of reciprocal tariffs for 2,072 products and provides the best possible terms for steel, aluminum, and copper derivatives.

Furthermore, the US promised infrastructure support and duty exemptions for raw materials and equipment needed by Taiwanese semiconductor firms building plants in the US. This milestone aims to protect Taiwan's status as a top exporter while ensuring stable investment conditions for domestic companies.
