Although anti-dumping (AD) duties ranging from 41.47% to 59.57% have largely blocked Chinese steel plates from Taiwan since 2017, imports have continued through exemptions for domestic non-produced specifications.

Industry participants reported frequent offers and lower prices for thick Chinese plates, with customs data showing 9,000 tons imported in 2025 and over 4,400 tons during the first half of 2026.

Because these low-priced sales squeeze domestic sales, local operators questioned how importers manage the high tax rates. Therefore, some industry participants proposed that China Steel Corporation (CSC) cooperate with customs authorities to tighten inspection procedures and address potential customs clearance loopholes.
