Swedish steel manufacturer SSAB has supplied its decarbonized steel, SSAB Zero™, for a solar park project being developed in Germany by Swedish power company Vattenfall.

The company said its SSAB Zero™ decarbonized steel will be used in the supporting structures on which the solar panels are installed. More than 9,000 steel profiles, with a combined weight of 209 tons, will be used for the project.

According to SSAB, the material was produced through low-emission steelmaking technologies designed to reduce carbon emissions compared with conventional blast furnace production.

Vattenfall said the use of low-emission steel supports its aim to reduce fossil fuel dependence not only through electricity generation, but also from the beginning of the supply chain.
