The Salzgitter Group posted first-quarter 2025 EBITDA of EUR78.6 million and a pre-tax loss of EUR27.3 million amid geopolitical volatility and weak economic momentum. Results included EUR23 million in valuation charges on derivatives and EUR10 million in impairment risk linked to planned portfolio streamlining. Technology and the equity-accounted Aurubis AG made positive contributions, while the Trading Business Unit broke even.Steel Production and Steel Processing reflected subdued European conditions. External sales fell 13% to EUR2.33 billion due to reduced volumes and the deconsolidation of the stainless tubes group.

The company reaffirmed its full-year 2025 guidance, expecting sales of EUR9.5 to 10 billion, EBITDA of €350 to 550 million. It also forecasts a return on capital employed (ROCE) slightly above last year. Salzgitter noted that unforeseen movements in selling prices, input costs, capacity levels, and exchange rates could significantly affect performance, with potential impacts in either direction throughout the financial year.
