Salzgitter upgrades Mülheim plant with new hot straightening machine

German steelmaker Salzgitter has commissioned a new hot straightening machine at its subsidiary Salzgitter Mannesmann Grobblech GmbH's plant in Mülheim an der Ruhr.

The equipment strengthens the facility’s heavy plate processing capabilities, particularly for energy infrastructure applications. Developed together with Austrian engineering company Buma Engineering & Anlagenbau, the machine represents one of the largest individual investments ever made at the site.

The new equipment enables the production of particularly thick, high-strength steel plates. These plates can be used in applications such as foundations and support structures for offshore wind turbines.

Salzgitter invested a double-digit million euro amount in dismantling the previous equipment and installing the new, more powerful machine.
