The Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) has selected Primetals Technologies to supply a new pelletizing plant, three 165-metric-ton ladle furnaces, and two 165-metric-ton RH degassers as part of the expansion of its IISCO steel plant in Burnpur.
The pelletizing plant will adopt the 576-square-meter straight-grate concept with an estimated annual capacity of 4.2 million metric tons. Primetals will also provide digitalization solutions, including smart sensors and predictive control modes. The company will supply key equipment such as the induration area, pelletizing discs, motors, and drives.
Its Austrian office will oversee design, engineering, and component delivery, while Primetals Technologies India will provide local engineering services and project coordination. Lloyds Engineering will supply equipment for iron ore grinding, filtration, and flux grinding.
The new secondary metallurgy equipment will enhance control of chemical composition and temperature and support heating of liquid steel. The project is expected to boost SAIL’s steel capacity and enable IISCO to produce hot-rolled coil and API-grade steel for the oil and gas sector. Commissioning is scheduled for 2029.
