SAIL & RINL invest in R&D in previous 3 financial years

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) and Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) have spent more than Rs 1,000 crore on research and development (R&D) in the previous 3 financial years.

SAIL spent around Rs 277 crore from 2015 to 2016 on R&D. The cost of R&D for SAIL from 2016 to 2017 was around Rs 339.4 crore, and that from 2017 to 2018 was around Rs 335.5 crore. Meanwhile, RINL spent around Rs 65.3 crore on R&D from 2015 to 2018.

The India ministry has established an industry driven institutional mechanism Steel Research and Technology Mission of India (SRTMI) to coordinate and assist joint collaborative research projects in steel Industry. The adoption of advanced technology was aimed to push Indian domestic steel industry to stand out its position as a strong leader in quality steel.
