POSCO expands Indonesian steel production facilities with 6.7 trillion won investment

5 Aug 2026 15:43 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
POSCO plans to allocate a portion of its 6.7 trillion won overseas investment over the next two years, aiming to double global crude steel capacity to 10 million tons by 2031. A core element targets Indonesia, where Krakatau Posco, a joint venture with Krakatau Steel, will expand production lines.

The initiative establishes Southeast Asia's first integrated system producing products ranging from molten iron to automotive steel plates locally.

Upgrades introduce cold-rolling and galvanizing facilities to process high value-added goods like cold-rolled and galvanized steel plates, moving beyond basic slabs and hot-rolled coils. In addition, the plan builds upstream stainless steel production capacity to manufacture slabs and hot-rolled coils.
