The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) of the Philippines proposed a regulatory framework establishing mandatory certification for certain wrought aluminum and aluminum alloy products produced through extrusion or cold-drawn processes.

Under the draft department administrative order, local and foreign manufacturers must obtain a Philippine Standard license before selling or distributing covered products in the country. Licences require factory audits and product conformance testing with Philippine National Standards, remaining valid for three years subject to surveillance audits. The scheme excludes prefabricated and pre-assembled products such as aluminum cookware, though incorporated aluminum components must comply.

Bureau of Philippine Standards Assistant Director Margarita Magsaysay said that expanding industrial demand prompted the regulatory measures to ensure structural integrity, consumer protection, and fair market competition.
