Novelis restarts its Oswego, New York, hot mill after a nine-month shutdown that severely disrupted auto industry supply chains. The restart brings relief to automakers, as the aluminum shortages cut Ford's F-150 inventory by almost 24% and cost Ford an estimated $2 billion to source alternative metal from overseas.

President and CEO Steve Fisher said that restarting the Oswego hot mill was a significant step forward for both their operations and customers. 

The Oswego plant is the largest domestic supplier of aluminum sheet for the US auto industry, serving Ford, GM, Stellantis, and foreign automakers with US production.

Novelis is now ramping up supply and accelerating a standardized operating system, while also building a new $5 billion recycling and rolling plant in Alabama that will produce 600 kilotons of finished aluminum products annually and create 1,000 jobs.
