Nalco targets mid-2026 launch for Pottangi bauxite mines

National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), an Indian state-owned aluminum giant, is pushing forward with plans to commence operations at its Pottangi bauxite mines in Odisha by June 2026. This plan is key to strengthening the company’s integrated aluminum business and ensuring raw material security.

Nalco Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) Brijendra Pratap Singh confirmed that Dilip Buildcon Limited has been selected as the lowest bidder for the mine's development and operation.

To align with the expanded mining capacity, Nalco is simultaneously increasing production at its Damanjodi refinery. The company is installing a fifth stream to add 1 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to its existing 2.275 MTPA alumina capacity. The long-term plan, supported by a 50-year mining lease from the Odisha government, is expected to support regional industrial growth.
