Starting August 12, Mexico implements news measure that targeting on control the quality of steel destined for the construction sector in the country.

The new regulation demands that domestic manufacturers demonstrate compliance with strict technical standards to market their products, making quality an indispensable requirement. Moreover, it imposes the exact same verification requirements on both Mexican-produced and imported steel to ensure the origin of the steel does not affect structural safety.

The standard will be implemented gradually in two phases, beginning in August 2026 and completing in 2027. 

In addition to improving traceability for distributors and construction companies, the new framework positions domestic steel under certification criteria that strengthen the transparency and competitiveness of the industry.
