Metinvest Group is set to build a EUR 2.5 billion green steel plant in Piombino, Italy, in partnership with Danieli. This state-of-the-art facility will produce 2.7 million tons of hot-rolled coils annually using electric arc furnaces, Ukrainian DRI, pig iron, and scrap.

The project aims to decarbonize EU steel production and reduce Italy’s reliance on non-European imports.

Construction preparations have begun, with production expected by mid-2028. The plant will serve as a model for advanced green steel technology, strengthening Ukraine’s integration into the European market.
