JSW Steel announced plans for a new scrap processing facility with a capacity of 0.5 million tons per year in Chennai to advance its sustainable steel goals. The unit will process end-of-life automobiles and white goods, supplying scrap to JSW's steel plants under construction in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

Joint Managing Director and CEO Jayant Acharya said that the facility will duplicate the efficient scrap supply chain model used in western India. The new unit supports the company's decarbonization strategy by maximizing scrap usage to lower carbon emissions.

This strategic expansion strengthens the southern India scrap ecosystem and reinforces JSW Steel's commitment to eco-friendly steel production.
