Jervois Global to resume operations at Brazilian nickel-cobalt refinery in Jan 2026

4 Dec 2025 15:54 reported by Huda Chen

A A A
Australian mining company Jervois Global announced plans to restart the operations at its São Miguel Paulista (SMP) electrolytic refinery, with commercial production expected to begin in 2027 following receipt of the required regulatory approvals.

The facility is the only electrolytic class 1 nickel and cobalt refinery in Latin America, designed to produce 10,000 tons of refined nickel and 2,000 tons of cobalt annually.

Jervois will initiate a 12-month construction and upgrade program in January 2026 to prepare the plant for commercial operations.

Market participants said that while the refinery’s output represents a small share of global refined nickel supply, its restart may influence market sentiment amid slowing demand growth in the new-energy sector.
