Japan's automobile production rises in Jan-May y-o-y

According to the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA), Japan produced approximately 3.52 million units of automobiles (including passenger cars, trucks, and buses) from January to May 2026, representing a 2.2% increase compared to the same period the previous year.

Domestic sales increased by 0.4% year on year, totaling 1.96 million units. In May, sales reached about 333,000 units, representing a 2.7% increase compared to the same month in the previous year.

For exports, May shipments totaled around 296,000 vehicles, a 1.8% year-on-year decrease. In the first five months of 2026, exports reached 1.67 million units, marking a 0.4% decline compared to the same period last year.
