Italian steelmakers' association Federacciai cautioned that escalating electricity and natural gas prices could jeopardize steelworks production and trigger facility shutdowns amid international geopolitical tensions.

Meeting on September 22, the organization urged the Italian government to push for a temporary suspension of European Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) costs for gas-fired power stations at the European Union level.

Federacciai emphasized the necessity of maintaining national mitigation tools like the Energy Release mechanism. Italian enterprises continue to face electricity expenses significantly higher than those of continental competitors, making protective measures vital for industrial survival.
