Hydro supplies recycled aluminum for General Motors’ Cadillac OPTIQ front bumper system

6 Aug 2026 16:09 reported by Joy Liu

General Motors will incorporate Hydro CIRCAL into the front bumper system of the Cadillac OPTIQ.

Produced at Hydro's new recycling facility in Cassopolis, Michigan, the material consists of at least 75% post-consumer scrap sourced locally from end-of-life products. Automotive supplier Shape Corp. will engineer, assemble, and deliver the structural crash-management component to General Motors specifications for the vehicle platform.

Hydro CIRCAL produces a carbon footprint of 1.5 kg of CO2e per kg of aluminum, achieving an estimated 70% reduction in CO2 emissions relative to the North American primary aluminum average.

This application demonstrates that high-recycled content alloys satisfy rigorous automotive safety requirements for energy absorption, corrosion resistance, and strength.
