HBIS and Chery have jointly launched a 2400 MPa ultra-high-strength and high-toughness hot-forming steel, marking a new milestone in advanced automotive steel development. The material achieves a breakthrough combination of 2400 MPa tensile strength and over 5.5% elongation, overcoming the traditional limitation of low toughness in extremely high-strength steels.

Current mainstream hot-forming steels typically range from 1500 to 2000 MPa, with global leading levels around 2000-2200 MPa. This new 2400 MPa grade sets a new upper benchmark in the industry.

The steel is designed for critical automotive structural parts such as A- and B-pillars and EV battery protection frames. It enhances vehicle safety while reducing component weight, providing an advanced solution to the industry’s challenge of balancing lightweight design and high safety performance.
