UAE-based Green Metals Industries (GMI) plans to develop an integrated steel, pipe and tube complex at Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi (KEZAD), with about $250 million allocated to the first phase.

The facility will have an annual steelmaking capacity of 1.2-1.4 million tons, combining melting, casting, rolling and tubular production. Its portfolio will cover carbon, stainless and alloy steels, including blooms, billets, rounds, flat and long products, pipes and tubes.

GMI aims to produce specialty grades currently imported by the UAE while also supplying commercial-quality billets to local mills. Monthly output is expected to begin at around 70,000 tons by the end of the fourth quarter before increasing to 100,000-120,000 tons by mid-2027. 

The complex will use induction and electric arc furnaces with scrap, direct reduced iron, and hot briquetted iron as flexible production inputs.
