Georgia Tech received a US$7.5 million investment from the United States Department of Energy (DOE) to lead the Critical Minerals in the Atlantic Seaboard Plain (CM-MAP) project.

Selected by DOE's Office of Critical Minerals and Energy Innovation, the project examines sedimentary deposits and legacy mining residues across the Atlantic coastal plain to advance domestic mineral production, recycling, and circular materials management.

The program integrates artificial intelligence and machine learning with materials analysis to optimize extraction pathways. The project builds on existing research networks, including the Center for Critical Mineral Solutions and regional manufacturing partnerships across the Southeast.
