Exlabesa, a Spanish producer of aluminum extrusions, planned a EUR 40 million investment to transform its Soure facility into a leading industrial and technological aluminum hub in Europe.

The "Exlabesa Coimbra 2030" project involves tripling the plant size to 30,000 square meters and increasing annual production capacity from 16,000 to 45,000 tons. The main technical additions include a state-of-the-art coating line and three extrusion presses, featuring a 12-inch, 45 MN unit.

This project will create 300 new jobs and incorporate Industry 4.0 technologies to serve high-value-added sectors such as defense, mobility, and naval engineering. Besides, the company will increase recycled aluminum usage to 90% from 60%.

Ramón Vázquez, General Manager of Exlabesa Portugal, said that the facility will become one of Portugal’s most advanced facilities in terms of production capacity and technological innovation, focusing on a reduced carbon footprint through process optimization and material recovery.
