European Commissioner for Climate, Net Zero and Clean Growth Wopke Hoekstra and Turkish Minister of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change Murat Kurum met in Brussels for the third EU-Turkey High-Level Dialogue on Climate, joined by Turkish Deputy Ministers for Trade and for the Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change. This was the first such meeting since April 2022 and followed Türkiye’s adoption of its first Climate Law in July 2025.

The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation and sharing progress in climate policy implementation. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement, emphasizing the need for tangible progress at COP30. They exchanged views on mitigation efforts under the upcoming Nationally Determined Contributions and reviewed technical cooperation on carbon pricing and adaptation. The dialogue also addressed Turkey’s forthcoming emissions trading system and future collaboration on the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, just transition, and coal phase-out.
