The Colombian Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Tourism published a draft decree that will impose a 35% tariff on steel imports to protect the domestic industry and jobs.

The measure was recommended by the Committee on Customs, Tariffs, and Foreign Trade after identifying that 13 subcategories of steel products, including rods, profiles, tubes, screws, metal structures, and aluminum articles, were entering the country at lower prices than normal.

The decree will be published for five days to allow for public comment and observations.
