Colombia bans coal exports to Israel to prevent contribution to Gaza conflict

3 Sep 2025 13:35 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
The Colombian government has officially banned all coal exports to Israel, citing the resource's potential use to fuel a war machine in the Gaza Strip. Decree 0949, signed on August 28, 2025, completely suspends shipments to Israel without exception.

This measure is based on World Trade Organization (WTO) rules that permit export restrictions during wartime or periods of international tension.

The ban will remain in effect until provisional measures from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) are complied with or the conditions that prompted the decision change.

This decision is to prevent Colombian natural resources from contributing to Israel's war machine.
