CMA CGM prepared for upcoming US port fee on China-built vessels

16 Sep 2025 16:30 reported by Rita Su

CMA CGM has confirmed it is fully prepared for the new port fee regulation issued by the US Trade Representative, effective October 14, 2025, targeting vessels built in China.

The fee will be phased in over three years, starting at US$50 per net ton for Chinese-owned vessels and rising to US$140 per net ton by April 2028.

During the 180-day grace period, CMA CGM has proactively adjusted its fleet and operations. The company expects to maintain full coverage of all US ports while minimizing the impact of the regulation. Importantly, CMA CGM stated it will not apply any additional surcharges related to this new policy on cargo bound for the US.
