Wanji Holding Group, a Chinese aluminum producer, plans to relocate its production capacity from central China's Henan province to the Xinjiang region in the northwest. The decision is part of a government push to promote the use of upgraded equipment and greener energy sources.

The company's new smelter, to be built in Xinxing city, will use 600 kiloampere electrolytic baths, the most efficient in the world. Construction is scheduled to begin in March 2026, with production starting in December 2027. Wanji will then demolish its old 580,000 tons/year smelter in Luoyang to complete the capacity replacement.

This decision meets Beijing's policy requiring new smelter construction to replace older capacity, maintaining the country's overall output ceiling at 45 million tons per year.
