Primetals Technologies has won a contract to supply automation systems and medium- and low-voltage drives for a new 6-stand pickling line and tandem cold mill (PLTCM) in China, marking the debut PLTCM application for its EnerX converter line.

The Chinese steel manufacturer is building this high-speed mill to enable a fully automated, digitally controlled, and highly precise production process, with startup targeted for May 2027. Primetals' contribution covers full Level 1 and Level 2 automation, along with the EnerX drive systems.

Neural network-based self-learning algorithms will power the process optimization system, supporting consistent output, high reduction ratios, and reliable thin-gauge rolling. The mill will also feature advanced thickness and flatness control technology to achieve precise, high-quality strip results.
