China Shougang Group has developed three new steel products for ultra-high-head, large-scale hydropower projects: 1,000 MPa yoke steel, 50SWYJ ultra-low-loss non-oriented electrical steel, and 1,000 MPa high-strength hydropower steel.

The three products recently passed a technical review organized by the Chinese Society for Metals (CSM). Experts concluded that their overall performance has reached an internationally advanced level, clearing the way for wider industrial application.

The newly developed materials are designed for critical hydropower equipment operating under demanding conditions. The 1,000 MPa yoke steel is designed for generator magnetic yokes, while 50SWYJ ultra-low-loss non-oriented electrical steel is intended for large hydropower generators requiring reduced core losses. The 1,000 MPa high-strength hydropower steel is targeted at high-strength structural components, including pressure steel pipes.
