HBIS Group Co., Ltd. (HBIS), a state-owned Chinese iron and steel producer, recently announced that it has reached a green steel supply agreement with an Italian end user. This transaction is HBIS's first commercial order that meets the requirements of the EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). It not only demonstrates the group's competitiveness in the global low-carbon steel market but also marks the active transformation of Chinese steelmakers under the international trend of carbon reduction.

According to the agreement, HBIS expects to export more than 10,000 tons of hydrogen-smelted steel by the end of August 2025. This batch of steel is produced using a hydrogen-based process, with a carbon footprint that is about 50% lower than traditional processes, and is accompanied by an internationally recognized Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) to prove its carbon reduction benefits. 

In the future, the two parties plan to further explore the feasibility of building a green and low-carbon supply chain, deepen cooperation, and respond to increasingly stringent carbon emission regulations and market demands.
