CBAM pushes European exports from price to carbon data

8 Sep 2026 16:54 reported by Lena Yang

A A A
EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) rules are tightening on emissions calculation, reporting, and verification, putting greater pressure on steel and other exporters.

As carbon data moves up the supply chain, product-level, traceable, and verifiable emissions data is becoming a new requirement for European orders. For steelmakers, company-wide averages may no longer be enough.

As carbon-border rules expand, exporters are increasingly competing not only on price and quality, but also on carbon data readiness.
