Unionized workers at BHP launched an eight-hour strike at Port Hedland to disrupt Australia's largest bulk export port.

The Electrical Trades Union, Australian Manufacturing Workers Union, and Western Mine Workers Alliance organized the walkout after seven months of failed negotiations over profit-sharing and working conditions.

Despite initial projections that the stoppage could cost millions in revenue and government royalties, BHP reported no major disruption and maintained its schedule to load seven ships.

In response to the labor action, the miner sought assistance from the Fair Work Commission. An academic expert noted that the brief delay caused minimal financial harm, but warned that such disputes could accelerate automation and reliance on AI systems within the mining sector.
