Baker Hughes: US rig counts down, Canada’s up w-o-w

According to the report from Baker Hughes, in the week ending on August 8, 2025, the US rig count fell by one to 539 units compared to the previous week. Among them, the number of drilling rigs for natural gas dropped by one to 123 units, and that for oil increased by one to 411 units. The total number had a year-on-year decline of 49 units.

During the same period, Canada’s rig count rose by three to 180 units from the previous week, including 122 oil rigs (down by two week on week) and 57 gas rigs (up by four week on week). Canada’s rig number slid by 37 units compared to the same period a year ago.
