Baker Hughes: US & Canada’s rig counts rise w-o-w for week ending May 22

According to the report from Baker Hughes, in the week ending on May 22, 2026, the US rig count was up by seven to 558 units compared to the previous week.

Among them, the number of drilling rigs for natural gas dropped by three to 125 units, that for oil hiked by ten to 425 units, and miscellaneous rigs stayed unchanged at eight. The total number had a year-on-year decline of eight units.

During the same period, Canada’s rig count rose by 14 to 135 units from the previous week, including 48 gas rigs (keeping flat week on week), 87 oil rigs (up by 11 week on week), and three miscellaneous rigs (up by three week on week). Canada’s rig number went up by 24 units compared to the same period a year ago.
