Baker Hughes: US & Canada’s rig counts hike w-o-w for week ending May 8

According to the report from Baker Hughes, in the week ending on May 8, 2026, the US rig count was up by one to 548 units compared to the previous week.

Among them, the number of drilling rigs for natural gas dropped by one to 129 units, that for oil also hiked by two to 410 units, and miscellaneous rigs kept flat at nine. The total number had a year-on-year decline of 30 units, or 5%.

During the same period, Canada’s rig count grew by one to 124 units from the previous week, including 47 gas rigs (down by two week on week), 77 oil rigs (up by three week on week), and zero miscellaneous rigs (unchanged week on week). Canada’s rig number went up by ten units compared to the same period a year ago.
