Argentina could reach trade agreement with US in Nov to establish tariff-free quota on steel and aluminum

14 Nov 2025 15:57 reported by Raul Lee

A A A
The Argentine government is in negotiations with the US government to establish a tariff-free quota system for steel and aluminum exports.

Sources with direct knowledge of the negotiations confirmed that a broader trade agreement between the two countries could be announced before the end of November, accompanied by a new visit to Argentina by the US Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, before the end of 2025.

Argentina hopes to restore the quota approved in 2018, which set a limit of around 180,000 tons per year for both products. Currently, steel and aluminum products from Argentina pay a 50% tariff when they enter the US market.
