Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) signed an agreement to purchase Aluminium Dunkerque, the largest aluminum smelter in the EU, from American Industrial Partners for around US$2.2 billion. The transaction creates a global low-carbon aluminum platform, funded by Alba's banking partners.

Concurrently, French public investment bank Bpifrance will invest EUR 100 million for a 6% minority stake and a board seat to secure the smelter's regional presence. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was inked in Paris during the Choose France Summit.

Alba's leadership notes that the deal builds a competitive international platform. Bahraini and French officials said that this partnership advances bilateral economic relations. Located in Loon-Plage, the automated French facility manufactures 300,000 tons of aluminum yearly for European demand.
