Global technology leading company ABB has completed a power system upgrade for the electric arc furnace at Australian steelmaker InfraBuild’s Laverton melt shop.

The upgrade aims to improve power supply reliability and reduce maintenance risks. The project included installing two VD4-AF vacuum circuit breakers designed for electric arc furnace applications, replacing aging and hard-to-maintain equipment.

InfraBuild emphasized that stable power is essential due to 40-minute melting cycles and frequent power switching. The new 2,500-amp system also supports higher future power input and long-term plant modernization.
