AB InBev buys back ownership of US can manufacturing plants

14 Jan 2026 13:32 reported by Joy Liu

AB InBev, a Belgium-based multinational drink and brewing company, has announced it will buy back a 49.9% stake in its Metal Container Corp. (MCC) facilities.

The $3 billion deal reverses a 2020 transaction with Apollo Global Management, returning full ownership of seven US plants to the brewing giant. While AB InBev maintained operational control of MCC throughout the partnership, this move consolidates its vertical integration.

The decision aligns with a 50% tariff on imported aluminum, which impacts production costs. By regaining total ownership of MCC, AB InBev aims to secure its packaging supply chain and manage manufacturing costs more effectively.
