The Malaysian government has imposed provisional anti-dumping (AD) duties on tinplate imports from China, India, Japan, and South Korea, effective January 11, ranging from 2.52% to 36.8%. A final determination will be made within 120 days from January 11, 2025.

China received a duty rate of 2.52% to 18.18%, India received 27.88%, Japan had 36.80%, and South Korea got 28.66% to 35.43%.

The move followed a preliminary investigation showing that tinplate imports from the above-mentioned countries materially harmed Malaysia's industry due to its prices being lower than the normal value.

The probe was launched in mid-August last year based on a petition filed by Perusahaan Sadur Timah Malaysia (PERSTIMA) Berhad, which alleged that imports of subject products from the four countries were sold at much lower prices than those in their countries.

The products involved are flat-rolled products of iron or non-alloy steel of a width of 600 mm or more, clad, plated, or coated with tin (electrolytic tinplate or tinplate), classified under HS codes and ASEAN Harmonised Tariff Nomenclature (AHTN) 7210119000 and 7210129000.
