Norwegian aluminum producer Norsk Hydro is investing NOK 1.65 billion in the construction of a new wire rod cast house at its aluminum smelter in Karmøy, with a planned annual capacity of 110,000 tons.

The construction is scheduled for the first quarter of 2028, and the production of aluminum wire for power cables in Europe will start in the same year.

This investment, included in Hydro’s annual investment plans of around NOK 15 billion, is the company’s largest investment in Norway in ten years.

With the investment, the capacity of wire rods will be increased to meet customers’ low-carbon solutions demand for the development and expansion of Europe's most critical infrastructure, said Eivind Kallevik, President and CEO of Hydro.
