Italian equipment supplier Danieli has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with nuclear technology supplier Newcleo to explore the integration of Newcleo Lead-cooled Fast Reactors (LFR) technology with Danieli Green Steel technology and equipment.

Newcleo’s innovative LFR technology provides electricity and high-temperature heat to meet some of Danieli’s process requirements for green steel production.

The European Commission is working to assist energy-intensive industries in reducing energy costs and has pledged to accelerate the development and deployment of small modular reactors to support Europe’s industrial competitiveness and decarbonization.

Through this cooperation, the combination of green steel production and nuclear energy production will take a new step forward and provide a solution for the economic feasibility of green steel production.
