US’ HDG sheet imports fall in Dec 2024 m-o-m, y-o-y

The preliminary Census Bureau data from the US Department of Commerce (USDOC) showed that the US imported around 164,000 tons of hot-dip galvanized (HDG) sheets in December last year, falling by 16% compared to the previous month and by 6.5% from the same month a year ago.

The imports from Canada accounted for the largest proportion, totaling roughly 57,000 tons, a month-on-month decrease of 3.2% and a year-on-year drop of 7.3%. Mexico followed with a supply of around 21,000 tons. Vietnam and South Africa ranked third and fourth with 16,200 tons and 14,600 tons.

During the period, the import value of these products totaled roughly US$177 million, down by 15.6% month on month and by 12.3% year on year.
