US' slab imports drop in Dec 2024 y-o-y

According to the United States Department of Commerce (USDOC), the US imported approximately 163,500 tons of steel slab in December 2024, dropping by 136.7% from the previous month and 109.5% from the same month a year ago. The import value was about US$97.2 million, compared with US$237.7 million and US$201.8 million.

Mexico was the major supplier, providing roughly 97,000 tons, compared to 96,000 tons in both November and December 2024. Brazil supplied about 46,000 tons of steel slabs to the US.
